Considerations before purchasing/installing a new UPS
Single Phase UPS Systems
- How long should the UPS run your load during a power outage, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes or more?
- Can the UPS be plugged into your existing standard wall outlet or will you need an Electrician? UPS systems from 250 to 1500VA can be plugged into a standard 15 amp wall outlet. Larger systems require special outlets or twist lock receptacles.
- Do you want the UPS to be rack mounted or to set on the floor?
- Do you have enough rack or floor space for the UPS and Battery Cabinet?
- What voltage does your load require? Some equipment requires standard 120Vac while others require 208, 230 or 240Vac.
- Do you need built-in redundancy to minimize potential downtown?
- Would you like a system that can grow with your needs?
Three Phase UPS Systems
- How long should the UPS run your load during a power outage?
- Do you have (or need) a backup generator?
- What input and output voltages do you need? 120/208 or 480Vac?
- Do you need a step down transformer for 480Vac to 120/208Vac?
- Do you have the floor space for the UPS and battery cabinet (particularly for longer runtime systems greater than 15 minutes)?
- Will your floor hold the weight of the UPS and Battery Cabinet without additional engineering and structural support?
- Must the UPS be installed to comply with earthquake standards?
- Do you need approval from your landlord to install the system into the building electrical circuits?
- Will your elevator support the weight of the UPS and battery cabinet during installation?
